P.H.0 Biography
Based in New York City, or the modern-day Silk Road, P.H.0 is an all-East Asian cybermetal/silkpunk quartet considered by many as a transformative force in the local scene. Proudly embracing the moniker “SILKPUNKS”, the band embodies “silk” in their deep-rooted East Asian cultural heritage, while “punks'' captures their relentless drive to subvert preconceived notions associated with their cultural identity and music, as well as to reshape and redefine what it means to be East Asian in Western setting.
Described by critics as “challenging our preconceived notions of how to categorize music” and by Radio Free Brooklyn as among “a handful of musical acts that can claim a truly unique sound” and “breaking down boundaries and blurring assumed cultural division”, P.H.0 combines elements of industrial, nü-metal, djent, ambient, and EDM with traditional East Asian musical elements, most notably the Chinese erhu, in a dynamic fusion that intertwines aggressive guitar riffs, chaotic breakdowns, and synthesized ambient soundscapes infused with East Asian spiritual and folk influences.
Their music, as demonstrated by their debut album “KARMA”, creates a complex tapestry that strikes a profound chord not only with individuals whose connection to their Asian cultural heritage may have frayed but also with a diverse audience who shares a similar sense of cultural estrangement.
