About this concert
Michael Daves is one of the most acclaimed guitarists and singers working in bluegrass today. A hugely entertaining, high energy performer, he combines a love of traditional material with a fearless, original style and jaw-dropping virtuosity. Michael received a Grammy nomination for his duo album with mandolin genius Chris Thile, and has collaborated with dozens of renowned names in American roots music, including Billy Strings, Brittany Haas, Tony Trischka, Aoife O'Donovan, Bruce Molsky and many more. Michael is a powerful, mesmerising solo artist, and we're delighted to have snapped him up for an intimate gig at the mill, on one of his rare trips to the UK. This event is a co-promotion between True North Music and Dark Woods Coffee's Red Deer Club.
Originally from the state of Georgia, where he was raised steeped in traditional music, for the past 20 years Michael has been a keystone of the thriving bluegrass and Americana scene in New York City. He has performed long running residencies at legendary folk venues including Rockwood Music Hall, and collaborated with a long list of Americana and bluegrass luminaries. In recent years Michael has performed at numerous festivals across the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe in his duo with mandolinist Jacob Jolliff, as well as in other line-ups and solo performance.
The gig will take place at Dark Woods Coffee, in their delightful mill building close to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, between Marsden and Slaithwaite. Local Americana-roots duo Phrase & Fable will play a short opening set, with Maria and Phil showcasing their evocative songs and glorious vocal harmonies. There will be a licensed bar provided by the neighbouring Zapato Brewery Tap. Join us for what will be a fun evening of exceptional American roots music!
