Petite Amie Biography
Petite Amie is a psychedelic pop-rock band from Mexico City. In 2019, the group of musicians decided to get together to write songs, releasing a set of singles a year after that would place them as one of top rising acts of the Mexican alternative rock scene. These songs became their self-titled debut LP, released in October 2021. This 2024, the band is back with a new album, which they’ll be realizing through the Spanish label Sonido Muchacho.
Thanks to the success of their first album, Petite Amie quickly gained international interest. In 2021, the group was selected to perform at the online edition of South By Southwest (SXSW) (one of the most important festivals for alternative music worldwide) and at the Freakout! Festival in Seattle. Seattle-based iconic KEXP, self described as “one of the most influential listener- supported radio stations in the world”, also invited the group to perform a live session (WATCH HERE). Interest in the band has grown in the US thanks to airplay from various radio stations, such as NPR, and LA’s KCRW, where the band's debut album reached number 2 on the station’s Top 30, as well as exposure from Spotify’s EQUAL campaign, which featured prominent Mexican female-led music projects in spaces such as Times Square in NYC. Furthermore, Petite Amie has been invited to perform as the opening act for top international acts such as L'Impératrice, Melody’s Echo Chamber and Kerala Dust.
The band has also created a history of successful performances in the US and Canada, earning a slot in some of the most popular indie music festivals, such as the Treefort Festival in 2023. This summer, the band will be going on tour, performing in festivals in both the US and Canada, to promote their upcoming album "Hay Veces".
Petite Amie's music is characterized by sweet vocals from the two vocalists, who sing in French and Spanish, acoustic guitars, enveloping synthesizers, fuzzy guitar solos and prominent drums. As such, the band fluctuates between different genres, based on psychedelic pop-rock. Their main influences include classics such as the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and more recent sounds such as Big Thief, Magic Potion, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Crumb.
