Rorschach Test Biography

In the dimly lit corners of the music world, where shadows dance with electric rhythms, a spark of rebellion was ignited in 1990 when James Baker formed Rorschach Test. Cast out from the church he once devoted his life to, Baker channeled his disenchantment into a new venture, crafting a soundtrack that resonated with the disenfranchised. Their raw energy and provocative themes quickly thrust them into the limelight, and they found themselves sharing stages with iconic bands like Korn, Ministry, and Type O Negative. The infamous Bush and Gore 2000 tour became a landmark in their career, as they championed causes like "Free the West Memphis Three" and anti-censorship, all while encouraging their fans to vote. However, the journey was fraught with challenges, and by the end of the tour, label issues and personal struggles led to the band's disbandment, leaving a void in the hearts of their fans. Fast forward to 2024, and Rorschach Test has risen from the ashes with a renewed vigor and an evolved lineup. Baker, now joined by the creative force of Kolby Peoples and the enigmatic lyricist known as The Narcoleptic Goddess, AKA Christine Baker, has breathed new life into the band. Their latest single, "Fallen," marks their triumphant return, accompanied by a visually compelling music video directed by Alex Chacon. This re-emergence is not just a return to form but a transformation, with James Baker embracing his identity as a person of faith and drawing inspiration from his recent years working as a hospice chaplain. Through his non-profit label, Unlabeled Artists, Baker aims to empower musicians to sustain themselves through their art, challenging the traditional music industry paradigms.
The new album, set for an October 2024 release, promises to delve deep into the human experience, unapologetically addressing dark and difficult topics through the lens of Gothic Industrial Metal. Recorded with a blend of analog and vintage equipment at Full Well Recording Studios under the expertise of Mike Bolenbach, the album maintains the integrity of a human touch. As Rorschach Test prepares for The Fallen Tour, kicking off in January 2025, they carry a dual mission: to provide hope to those battling mental health and substance use disorders and to disrupt the patriarchal structure of the music industry. With their powerful message and unwavering dedication, Rorschach Test stands as a beacon for those lost in the shadows, reminding them that it is never too late to find their way back.
