About this concert
The legendary classic rock band HEAD EAST has long set the standard for authentic, full-vocal, goodtime rock harmonies that few bands can equal. Their high-energy shows are filled with superb vocals, flashy guitar work and memorable keyboard melodies that continue to rock audiences of all ages. Their signature song, “NEVER BEEN ANY REASON” with notable chorus “Save my life I’m going down for the last time” has long been considered by many radio stations across the country as “The Rock & Roll National Anthem.” This year Head East will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary by performing most cuts off of their iconic record “Flat As A Pancake”. The band has brought classic arena rock to countless audiences all across North America. According to founding member and keyboardist Roger Boyd, Head East will continue to bring their brand of dance and shout, good-time rock and roll to audiences of all ages for many years to come. “As long as I can lift my synthesizer over my head and the audience goes wild, we’ll keep rockin’ on!” Head East is a 5-piece band consisting of Roger Boyd (keyboards & vocals), Greg Manahan (bass, lead guitar & vocals), Mark Murtha (lead guitar & vocals), Eddy Jones (drums & vocals), and Darren Walker (lead vocals & bass). Columbia Records and Mercury Records recording artists, The Flock, were considered to be well ahead of their time incorporating electric violin into their unique jazz-rock style. Anchored by original members Jerry Goodman (Mahavishnu Orchestra and Dixie Dregs) and Jerry Smith, The Return of the Flock! also now features 2-time Grammy Award winner Howard Levy. English blues legend, John Mayall, once called The Flock, “the best band I heard in America”, after they shared the stage for a performance. The Flock has been considered an extremely innovative band combining Jazz, Rock, Fusion, and Classical themes into their repertoire. They have shared the stage with such greats as: Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Grateful Dead, and many other notable artists both in the USA and abroad. From the Fillmore East to Fillmore West and most venues in between including Chicago’s own Kinetic Playground, Aragon Ballroom, Auditorium Theater and Grant Park Bandshell, The Flock has enjoyed great success around the world! They are now back, better than ever, performing songs from their albums as well new, inspiring material.

Head East Biography
Head East was a hard rock quintet originally from south central Illinois, then Champaign, Illinois. They released their first album, Flat as a Pancake, in 1974 on their own record label (Pyramid Records) selling all 5,000 records and 500 eight-tracks produced. A&M was impressed enough to sign the band and re-release the album in 1975 which went gold by 1978.
Flat as a Pancake would remain their most popular album spawning two charting singles, the well-known anthem "Never Been Any Reason" and "Love Me tonight", both written by guitarist Mike Somerville.
This lineup of John Schlitt (vocals), Mike Somerville (guitars), Roger Boyd (keyboards), Dan Birney (bass) and Steve Huston (drums) would last through four more studio albums and a double-LP live album when in 1980 Schlitt, Birney and Somerville left the band although Somerville would return for 1994 through 2003.
Roger Boyd took over leadership of the band for one mildly successful album, U.S. 1, and two more studio albums before the band became an oldies act
