London Hammond n Horns funk/soul heavyweights The Jezebel Sextet are back with Lisa Grand on vocals performing the songs of Aretha Franklin and James Brown’s Funky Divas.
Inspired by one of soul music’s most celebrated live albums, Aretha Live at the Fillmore West - this show recreates those legendary live arrangements by Aretha Franklin and King Curtis with the Memphis Horns. Plus funk vocal classics by James Brown’s Funky Divas!
You’ll hear Aretha hits ‘Respect', 'I Say A Little Prayer', ‘Think' and 'Natural Woman', alongside classics by James Brown’s favourite female singers Lyn Collins ('Think About It'), Marva Whitney ('What Do I Have To Do'), Vicki Anderson ('Answer to Mother Popcorn') and Sugar Pie DeSanto ('Go Go Power').
All performed live by an incredible 8 piece band who've been selling out London’s Jazz Cafe for over 15 years, complete with real Hammond organ and the Jezebel Sextet’s “majestic horn section” (Blues & Soul).

ABOUT LISA GRAND
Lisa Grand is a London singer-songwriter and musician who’s written hundreds of original songs including ‘Sauce’ featuring New York rapper Cokah (Wonda Music). She’s sung live on BBC Radio London for Carrie and David Grant and toured the UK and Canada. She wrote and produced her debut EP Paper Airplanes in 2019 and has performed at the Jazz Cafe, 606 Club, Surround Sounds Festival, Caffe Concerto and Soul Stripped Sessions in London, Comedia (Brighton), and Lula Lounge (Toronto.)
ABOUT THE JEZEBEL SEXTET
With over 20 years experience on the live circuit, The Jezebel Sextet has worked with singers such as Reuben Richards, Mudibu (JP Bimeni and The Blackbelts), Sir Joe Quarterman (Free Soul), Rev Chunky (The New Mastersounds), Liz Swain (Heritage Orchestra), Paris Ruel, Sulene Fleming (Brand New Heavies) and Randa Khamis (Freestyle Records). They've played all over Europe and been featured on BBC 6 music and LBC radio. They appear on Freestyle Records’ Fresh Out The Box compilation and released their debut album Lift It Up in 2012 produced by Leigh Gracie (Speedometer).

Experience the incredible sound of Otis Redding's music as two of the UK's most exciting raw soul acts join forces to mark 50 years since his untimely death in 1967.
Originally commissioned by Soul Cookers Records for Saint Paul Soul Jazz Festival 2008, this uplifting show pairs charismatic Burundian singer songwriter Mudibu with Hammond and horns from The Jezebel Sextet.
You’ll hear 20 Otis Redding classics - including hits such as Respect, My Girl, Mr Pitiful, Hard To Handle, Love Man, and Try A Little Tenderness - performed by an 8 piece band with an incredible raw sound that’s guaranteed to get you on the good foot!
Recent performances include The Jazz Cafe, The Boisdale Club, 100 Club, The Hideaway Club, and Hootananny in London; Band On the Wall in Manchester; The Stables in Milton Keynes; The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal. Festival bookings include Saint Paul Soul Jazz Festival; Roubaix Vintage Weekender; Tighten Up Festival in Marseille; and Grand Casino Soulstice Party in Nice.
