Blue Violet Biography
North London based band Blue Violet are made up of Sarah McGrigor – Vocals, and Sam Gotley – Guitar / Vocals. Their Second album: Faux Animaux (the French title a nod to Sarah’s Parisian roots), was recorded at J&J Studios in Bristol with mixer/producer TJ Allen (Bat For Lashes, Portishead), and is a unified and sophisticated update of modern British alt-pop, drifting from sizzling space disco to stunning, swirling cinematic vistas. Thematically, the album highlights the ironies of human behaviour and how the society we have built is leading us further and further away from our natural, animalistic instincts. The band’s second offering promises to be as genre defying as their debut: Late Night Calls, produced by Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Marianne Faithfull), described by 6Music’s Steve Lamacq as “A cocktail of Iain Banks and Jane Austen”; the comparison to literary greats a fitting compliment to a band garnering a reputation for attention to detail where lyrics and arrangement are concerned.
On Faux Animaux, Blue Violet continue their exploration of rich electronic avenues inspired by Anna Calvi, St Vincent, Radiohead, and recent Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Fresh off tour with 90s icons Echobelly and, earlier in ’24, asked to perform a duet with The Gaslight Anthem at the Camden Roundhouse, the band have gathered support for their live show in addition to their studio offerings, fast becoming one of the most enthralling underground propositions of the age.
