About this concert
The career of Sir András Schiff, one of the world’s leading pianists, has already lasted over half a century. You can frequently also experience the all-round musician as a conductor and he regularly collaborates with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Schiff and this orchestra share an interest in historically informed interpretations. In 2021, the perfectly matched duo documented its artistic connection in an acclaimed recording of Brahms’ piano concertos and now presents works by two composers who embody the very essence of German Romanticism: Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.

Sir András Schiff Biography

From Wikipedia

András Schiff (born December 21, 1953) is a Hungarian-born classical pianist. He was born in Budapest and began piano lessons at the age of 5 with Elisabeth Vadasz. Schiff studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, and later in London with George Malcolm. He emigrated from Hungary in 1979[1].

In 1999 he formed his own chamber orchestra, the "Cappella Andrea Barca" (the name being "Andras Schiff" in Italian). He has since appeared as a conductor with many major orchestras.

Schiff is one of the best-known living interpreters of J.S. Bach and Robert Schumann. He has recently begun to perform in recital and to record the complete piano sonatas of Beethoven.

Schiff has been a British citizen since 2001. He is married to the violinist Yuuko Shiokawa.
