About this concert
"Wickedly funny." ~ Susquehanna Folk Music Society "Devastating." ~ Americana Highways "[Tarwater is] one magnificent tapestry of roots music." ~ No Depression An Army veteran who traded in his rifle for a banjo and guitar, Greensboro-based songwriter Colin Cutler's music spans the breadth of Americana, from Appalachian oldtime to blues to old school country to folk rock, with lyrics rooted in the earthy storytelling traditions of the South, his Pentecostal upbringing, and literature. Winner of the 2022 Emerging Artists competition at the Susquehanna Folk Festival, Colin Cutler and his band performed at Merlefest, Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival, and Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival in the last year. His 3 albums and EP have landed plays on public radio in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Dakota, the BBC, and community and college stations around the region. His songs have also been placed in the British film Zomblogalypse, discussed in No Depression, Americana Highways, and Adobe and Teardrops, and have taken him to gigs from North Carolina’s Martha Bassett Show, Antlers and Acorns Songwriters Festival, Haw River Ballroom, and NC Folk Festival, to the Jalopy Theatre’s Roots N Ruckus in Brooklyn, City of York Folk Festival (UK) and Romanian National Museum of Literature--and plenty of breweries and farmer's markets in between. He has also shared stages with Caroline Spence, Buffalo Nichols, David Childers, and Catherine Backus (catherine the great). "A seasoned performer, Colin combines his worldly and traveled view with the sound of southern roots." ~ Around Town Sessions
