About this concert
KONZERT-INFORMATION Sari Schorr has taken the music world by storm. She has a voice like no other; hyper powerful, husky and muscular, with an incredible texture and range. She delivers a sentence as a boxer would throw an uppercut to his opponent. Every year there is seemingly a constant parade of must-hear singers right? Not really. They come along rarely if they’re the real deal, as rarely as a seminal live album actually. Meet Sari Schorr. What makes her different is what makes all the others the same. She’s got talent, who hasn’t, but she has depth, life experience (like helping out in Haiti after the earthquake). She has real stories to tell. Sari is one of the few singers that can be, and is, mentioned in the same breath as Joplin. What you get is Blues with 3 Michelin Stars served in a New York diner. Don’t forget to leave a tip! Schorr’s “overnight” success comes after years trudging the rugged road of life of the hard-working blues woman. She honed her craft playing relentlessly in the fierce South Bronx and on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Her talent would not be denied and it took her all the way to Carnegie Hall, tours around the world and major TV appearances. Sari gained prominence throughout the blues world touring with the legendary guitarist, Joe Louis Walker. She was recognized for her contribution to the blues in 2015 with an induction into the New York Blues Hall of Fame. In Memphis, that same year, a chance meeting with iconic record producer Mike Vernon (Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Peter Green) took Sari’s career to the next level. Within minutes of hearing Sari sing Mike offered to come out of retirement to produce her debut album, A Force of Nature. The album quickly established Sari as the new undisputed rising star of blues rock. Sari broke new ground with her sophomore album, Never Say Never with a collection of songs heavy with reflections on Sari’s American home, delivered through her unmistakable, powerful and heartfelt vocals. The album received unanimous praise from the critics. Spin Sunday Reviews said, “Every so often you come across an album which, from the moment the first note hits your eardrums until the last track fades into the ether, you know you have fallen in love and heard something really beautiful that will stay with you long after the notes have faded. This is how I felt when I first heard this sublimely intense and haunting album from Sari Schorr.” Fireworks Magazine called the album, “sheer perfection” and said, “I’m willing to wager you won’t find a better female-fronted Blues Rock album this year.” Schorr is a skilled writer. Sari’s songwriting reflects human emotions and experience, adding to the feeling of intimacy with her audience. She speaks of her commitment to tackle difficult subjects in her songwriting often considered taboo, such as domestic abuse and heroin addiction, offering a different perspective on topics of which no one wants to talk. Sari’s poetic lyrics reveal a more vulnerable side behind her towering presence. They are vibrant and gripping and highlight just how good she is at invoking passion, grit, and empathy. Sari Schorr ‘Live In Europe’ will be out on Manhaton Records on 6th March 2020, followed by her biggest European tour yet, comprising over 30 dates across the continent and the UK in March and April. Sari’s brand-new, 12-track live album was recorded on the last tour, and serves as a perfect illustration of why you’ll want to catch the next one. We are treated to the passion of original songs from her two studio albums and two reworked covers, Black Betty and I Just Want To Make Love To You, both hot favourites with audiences. These stunning live recordings from across Europe, along with two previously-unreleased acoustic tracks recorded for the BBC in the UK, truly make this album an object of desire. For Sari “there is an honestly in a live performance that allows me to be vulnerable and uncensored.” In her own words: “The time had come for me to get a bit messy. Too much of my life was becoming cleaned-up in the carefully curated world of social media where we retouch our faces and bodies and carefully edit our words. Recording a live album was a blunt attempt to fend off the perfectionism of the technological world,” says Sari. Sari has shared the stage with notable artists including Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Buddy Guy, Eric Burden, Billy Gibbons, John Fogarty, Robin Trower, Walter Trout, Joe Louis Walker, and Eric Gales. Sari performed at the famous Ottawa Blues Festival in front of 25,000 and in Europe she has performed at the world famous Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, London Blues Festival, Nottoden Festival in Norway, Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival in the UK, Vienna Blues Spring in Austria, Sulwałki Festival in Poland, Ribs & Blues in The Netherlands, North Atlantic Blues Festival in the USA, Edinburgh Blues Festival in Scotland, Blues Balls Festival in Switzerland, Ottawa Bluesfest in Canada, Spirit of 66 in Belgium, Rother Bluestag in Germany, Frank Rock & Bl ues Festival in Spain, Great Southern Blues Festival in Australia and many others. Sari mixes a passion for music and with a duty of social responsibility. She has devoted her talent and energy to music projects of a grand scale for humanitarian causes. Most notable is her work on a “Toast to Freedom” for Amnesty International, where she collaborated with many musical legends including Warren Haynes, Levon Helm, Keb Mo‘, Eric Burdon and Carly Simon. Sari’s humanitarian efforts include work in Haiti and India. She founded “Matters” – a non-profit that draws attention to humanitarian causes through the arts. Sari is a marathon runner and animal rights activist. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and rescued pit bulls. “Bottle the power of Grace Slick with the whisky doused warmth of Janis Joplin and the vintage vocal result is Sari Schorr who pours out her heart and soul…” – Express Mail “Schorr can sing ‘em. All husk and muscle, the operatically trained New Yorker makes you believe every stormy line of this game-changing album.” – Classic Rock Magazine “A voice of breathtaking quality and power and a live show that erupts like a volcano have catapulted Sari Schorr into the spotlight as the new undisputed star of Blues Rock!” – Devil’s Gate Media
