About Sinitta

Sinitta is an American-born actress and singer who has lived in the United Kingdom for most of her career. She is best known for her hit records in the 1980s including “So Macho”, “Toy Boy”, “Cross My Broken Heart” and a 1989 cover of “Right Back Where We Started From”, and her close relationship with Simon Cowell.

Singing and dancing from a young age, Sinitta is the daughter of Canadian actress and disco/soul singer Miquel Brown and Anthony Blackett, and is the niece of disco singer Amii Stewart. She herself trained at the Legat Ballet School before enrolling at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA).

Herstage credits include The Wiz (Sheffield Crucible), Cats (New London Theatre),Masquerade (The Young Vic), Little Shop Of Horrors (Comedy Theatre), Mutiny! (Picadilly Theatre), Hair (The Old Vic), Smokey Joe’s Cafe (Comedy Theatre) and What A Feeling (London Palladium, followed by a national tour). She has also appeared in films The Other Side Of Me, Foreign Bodies and Shock Treatment.

Sinitta appeared on The Tube as a dancer for soul/pop group Imagination, before joining Hot Gossip to sing lead. She has sung backing vocals for a number of artistsand was a live ghost vocalist for Lee John. In 1984 she participated in A Song For Europe, the UK heat of the Eurovision Song Contest, with her song “Imagination” coming fourth.

Sinitta released her first solo recording “Never Too Late”, mixed by Jellybean (Madonna, E.G Daily), in 1983. Further singles “Cruising”, “Feels Like The First Time” and “So Macho” followed, the latter spending 18 weeks on the British Singles Chart, peaking at Number 2 and entering into the Guinness Book Of World Records as the biggest selling single of 1986. Following this success, Sinitta signed to Stock Aitken Waterman as part of the infamous Hit Factory, releasingself-titled album Sinitta! along with UK Top 20 singles“GTO”, “Cross My Broken Heart”, “Right Back Where We Started From”, “Love On A Mountain Top”, “Love and Affection”, “Lay Me Down Easy” and “Showdown”.

Sinitta has a sharp eye for talent, counting Daniel and Natasha Bedingfield, Ragiv and Yazz among acts she has found and coached. She has mentored and presented onthree series’ of children’s acting workshop The Wall and was the female judge on the panel for the ITV’s West End talent search show, Grease Is The Word.

Sinitta has worked on The X Factor as a coach and mentor since the show began in 2004, appearing on screen with Simon Cowell during the Judges’ Houses stagesalongside her creative involvement coaching and mentoring talent behind the scenes.

Sinitta has been a regular presenter on Loose Women and This Morning and has given numerous TV interviews and made appearances on shows including The Xtra Factor, This Week, OK!TV, Live From Studio Five, The Alan Titchmarsh Show and Never Mind TheBuzzcocks. She has also appeared on successful reality shows Hit Me Baby One More Time, MTV Cribs, Celebrity Wife Swap, Cirque du Celebrité, Dancing On Ice, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and The Jump.

In 2011, Sinitta founded Attinis.com; an interactive online platform for young performing talent and exceptional individuals to find, nurture and launch emerging talent with real star quality. She has since signed four unique and exciting acts to Attinis Productions, all of whom will be launched onto the music scene during 2013.
