About Doe Maar
Doe Maar (1978-1984 and 1999-2000, 2008) is a famous Dutch(-language) pop band with influences reaching from pop, ska, punk and reggae.
They are without a doubt one of the most successful bands in the history of Dutch pop music, looking at the success of their albums and singles.
All four studio albums reached the number one position in the Netherlands and five compilation albums also reached the top of the charts.
Because of their song craft and because they caused an unequaled craze in The Netherlands, with screaming and fainting teenage girls and merchandizing that dominated Dutch teenage fashion for a while with its recognisable trade mark colours fluorescent green and pink, they are sometimes called 'the Dutch Beatles'.
The most famous line-up is that consisting of Henny Vrienten (lead singer and bass), Ernst Jansz (keyboards and lead singer), Jan Hendriks (guitar and singer) and Jan Pijnenburg (drums and singer).
In 1999 Doe Maar decided to come back for one final album, "Klaar" (Finished), and for their last 15 shows ever in the famous Ahoy hall (Rotterdam), which were all sold out.
In November 2007 they decided to play one more reunion gig on July 12 2008 at de Kuip stadium in Rotterdam. After that concert sold out within the hour, they added another concert on july 10 2008, also at de Kuip.
Ernst Jansz told the crowd at the shows in de Kuip with the last song "De Laatste Keer/The Last Time" that this would definitely not be the last time. Rumours state that Doe Maar will be recording a new album soon.
