About Ray Keith
Ray Keith is one of the UK’s most respected names in jungle and drum and bass, often regarded as one of the Godfathers of Jungle and DnB. Renowned for his bass-heavy yet soulful sounds and seamless skills both in production and performance, this iconic DJ, producer and record label boss has remained at the pinnacle of the scene, since helping to pioneer the genre three decades ago.
With his roots tending vinyl at the historic Black Market Records London, Ray burst onto the scene in the early 90s as a DJ on the UK rave circuit. When his remix of Orbital’s ‘Chime’ dropped in 1992, he was immediately propelled into the limelight as one of the UK’s most celebrated producers. With an abundance of remixes hitting the streets throughout jungle's mid-90s “Golden Era,” Ray soon became known as the don of the “rerub”—with well over 100 jungle and drum and bass remixes released—including reworks of Moby's “Yes Yes,” Congo Natty's “Police in Helicopter,” and Baby D's “Let Me Be Your Fantasy.”
Witnessing a musical revolution with the emergence of jungle/drum and bass, dubstep and grime, Ray Keith built his sound from the ground up; along with one of the most important labels in the industry: Dread Recordings, which turns 30 this year.
Ray Keith’s mixes have been featured on countless shows including BBC Radio1, Blueprint, and most recently Thames Delta Radio—which was nominated in the top 6 DNBAwards Best Radio Show. His shows reach audiences of 25k a week, with guests having included the likes of Roni Size, Heartless Crew, and Dizzee Rascal. He also releases a monthly Dread Radio Podcast of upfront cutting edge jungle and drum and bass, which is revered as one of the best DnB streams in the world—as well as running a regular Blueprint night in London.
With Ray’s productions weaving together a canvas of past, present and future jungle, his 8 studio albums are mere chapters of a greater body of work in drum and bass culture. The story of his experience is best encapsulated with his recent biography “Dark Soldier” which shares his unique perspective on the growth of the jungle movement. Always a trailblazer, you can find him of late crushing it at festivals like Boomtown, We Out Here, Leeds Fest and Bang Face Weekender, and smashing up dance floors with his band Renegade Live and Dread label DJ tours all over Europe.
Recent projects have included working on an EP and 50 track compilation for Deekline’s Jungle Cakes label, the “Babylon Dread EP,” and the “Chopper Remixes XXV.” Continuing forward with the "Prophecy LP,” the “Birdman EP,” and many other singles into last year, Ray Keith is an unstoppable beacon of creativity and influence within the industry.
A true visionary in the genre with his unique twist of soulful heavy-edged jungle, Ray Keith remains at the forefront of drum and bass culture….Catch this legend all over North America in 2024!
