Danyl Johnson

As you know I did The X Factor in 2009 and it may seem as though I have been away for a long time. Mainly I have just been sleeping. Like a bear. In hibernation. But I felt like I needed time to remember how to write songs and to find my love of music again. Which sounds a little bit serious - anything but. I've baked, eaten Pot Noodles* and tried my hand at DIY which has resulted in several trips to Accident & Emergency... And now I'm back. Still the same Danyl who can't spell his name right** but with a whole new outlook and no surname. Though I still have a surname. So here's a bit about me: I was born on 17th June 1982 in Hillingdon. I moved to Reading when I was 14 and got involved with a theatre company called Starmaker where I found my passion for performing. I later joined a Reading-based covers band, the Mark Tait Band, where I gained experience and confidence. I went on to join a couple of boybands but we won't talk about that (you can still find stuff on MySpace, that's how long ago it was...). Fast forwarding to 2006, I threw myself into teaching. At that time, I was still writing and started working with a guy called Nick Burrage and we played a few gigs around the country under the name of Empty Spaces. After many years of people telling me to audition for The X Factor, including the kids in my class, I decided "why not?", "what could possibly go wrong?"...
