The first I saw Fred Eaglesmith was approximately 30 years ago. I was playing drums with the Leslie Spit Treeo back then. We were the opening band, somewhere near Kitchener. At the time, Willie P. Bennet and Washboard Hank were playing with Fred. I had never heard of him and was wondering who on earth we were opening for. At the time, the Spits were headling most places this size, so I was wondering why we were opening for these guys I had never heard of? Well, from the moment they started, I was blown away. I spent every dollar I had on me that night for a bunch of his cd's and was an instant fan. (Funny side note, Pat Langner fell asleep that night on the couch backstage with a cigarette in his mouth. The pillow caught on fire as well as a section of the couch! I joked for weeks that I saved his life)! I've seen Fred Eaglesmith live at least 10 times since then, and it's always a great show. But last night was amazing. What a great backing band, Tif Ginn and Fred were on fire. It was a special night at Uxbridge Music Hall. Saying that, I think every show with this particular group of musicians will be a special night. If you are a fan of Fred Eaglesmith, Tif Ginn, or live music, you must go see this latest incarnation of the band.

About Fred Eaglesmith

Frederick Elgersma - son of an immigrant family from the Dutch province Friesland. Raised in Ontario, Canada - was ten years old when he first saw Elvis on television. 'I'm gonna do that', he cried out. That day he wrote his first song.
Thirty-five years and thousands of songs later, Fred Eaglesmith is a singer and guitarist with a substantial group of extremely loyal fans, a celebrity in the small alternative country music scene. There's not a single bar or club on the North American continent, where he hasn't performed yet, either solo or with his band 'The Flying Squirrels'.

The 'farm boy' of strict Reformed upbringing, blessed with great talent for songwriting, hasn't strayed from his roots. He is a hero for those who recognise themselves in his lyrics: about poor farmers, racing trains, ramshackle trucks and love affairs full of misunderstanding. He feels no need to become a star. Due to his intensive travelling, Fred has become an open-minded, self-willed and witty observer.
