About Antonio Forcione
It has been said that Antonio Forcione is "probably the best acoustic guitar player in the world" [citation needed]; he is certainly up there with Tommy Emmanuel in terms of technique and sheer musical eloquence, his playing shares the same fire, passion and inspiration, though Forcione tends towards more jazz (especially gypsy style) and south American influenced styles of playing.
Forcione originally studied percussion, before switching to the guitar. This influence and ability is clear in his playing, which exhibits strong and complex rhythms as well as considerable use of the guitar body for percusive effect.
His albums are all worthy additions to any acoustic music collection, however the stand out ones are generally agreed to be Meet me in London and Dedicato. Talking Hands with Neil Stacey is also worth investigating. Note however that Forcione is undoubtedly at his best live.
Although Italian born, he has been based in London since 1983 and regularly tours the UK and Europe, currently with a sophisticated 4 piece including cello, flute, double bass and percussionist.
