Kanashii

Kanashii is a Modern Grunge/Shoegaze band from Southeastern Kentucky. Kanashii is a Japanese word that translates to sad, miserable, unhappy, or sorrowful person. The band decided to use this name since the original creation of the band was to be an outlet to help cope with negative emotions. The band formed during the 2020 pandemic by lead singer/guitarist, Sammy Clifford, as a way to convey empathy, grief, and many other emotions via musical expression. Joined by Smitty on bass, Eric Dutton on Drums, and David Johnson on Guitar the band has built a unique sound inspired by bands such as Nirvana, Deftones, My Bloody Valentine, and The Cure.
