About Bucovina
Bucovina is one of the most influential bands of the new Romanian metal wave. The band was formed back in late 2000 and evolved from a rather raw black-ish sound to the self-titled folc-hevi-blec genre. Afunny mixture of Romanian-transcribed pronunciation, folc hevi blec sums up the three main ingredients that make Bucovina stand from the crowd.
The folk part is different from the usual prejudices such bands have to confront these days, as Bucovina is not your usual polka-metal group, and neither does it pick up traditional melodies adding distorted guitars and drums.
Bucovina's tunes are the real neo-folk deal, because the themes of these songs come to life by simply humming choruses that happen to come to the minds of their members. It's like back in the day when a hunter would hum to himself while striding through the woods and fields in search of his prey. It's authentic “modern-day tradition” in the making.
As for the black metal and heavy metal flavors, they're not added into the mix as part of a recipe, and the wide variety of songs one can listen in Bucovina's discography is the best proof for that. More than anything, Bucovina are true to themselves and will always be. Maybe that's why they managed to become Romania's most prominent metal band without being signed to a label or records company. Bucovina is making inroads in the West-European metal scene, playing festivals and getting neat reviews, plus dozens of new fans after each show.
Still a unique, authentic presence in the metal scene, Bucovina is hard to imitate simply because what they do is not an imitation but comes straight from the heart. A long-standing collaboration with the legendary producer Dan Swano and, more recently, Martin Buchwalter, is also the guarantee that their albums have top-notch sound that can effortlessly rival big-bucks bands.
For the time being, Bucovina is writing a new album scheduled to surface in 2018 and touring Europe, with prospects of reaching Japan, too. 2018 European festivals are already adding Bucovina on their bills, too, as Youtube views for some of their songs go past the 1 million mark.
