About Ivan Segreto
Ivan Segreto is a Sicilian singer-songwriter, pianist and composer. He is also an esteemed music composer for film and video soundtracks.
His music merges jazz and song poetry, traditional tunes and rhythms together with electronic and electro acoustic impressions.
He released his debut album Porta Vagnu on Epic/Sony Music in 2004 gaining wide critical acclaim and building a strong following of fans that still support him to this day. The same year, he received a nomination for the prestigious Italian award “Premio Tenco”. His career as a live performer developed rapidly with the help of musicians such as Franco Battiato and Wynton Marsalis who gave him the opportunity to be the opening act during their concert tours in Italy.
In 2005 the second album Fidate Correnti (Sony Music/BMG) climbed up the Italian pop charts. The first single “Vola Lontano” stayed on heavy rotation on top 40 FM radio for several months. The following year he appeared at the legendary “Festival di Sanremo” (the Italian selection for the Eurovision) with the second single “Con Un Gesto” gaining huge visibility through a public nation-wide live TV broadcast.
Segreto releases in 2007 his third with on a major label album, Ampia (Sony Music/BMG), and Ivan and performs at Torino’s “Traffic Festival” sharing the stage with Antony And The Johnsons and Subsonica.
2007 marked the year during which Segreto made several life experiences that determined a deep change in his music.
He took a month long trip through North India and Pakistan in search for the roots of Sufi vocal music, started studying and practicing advanced audio processing techniques that he now incorporates in his work.
After moving back to his hometown in Sicily, Segreto has dedicated himself to the development of a new repertoire rooted in his land of origin. His latest work combines melodic and rhythmic elements from his homeland with a sonic landscape inspired by the contemporary Nordic and British music scene.
With the help of a team of young professionals led by producer and musician Michele Locatelli, founder of the independent label ObliqSound, Ivan Segreto launches, after two years of work, the new groundbreaking album Chiaro (ObliqSound) released in Italy in October 2011.
In 2014 he recorded on an independent label (BradìLogo) his last album called Integra, witch was was mentioned as one of the best 2014 Italian albums.
