About Seven Day Sons

It’s amazing what you can accomplish in just six months if you are focused, diligent and energetic. Over that extraordinarily abbreviated span of time, four musicians came together, formed a band, crafted more than three dozen songs, and then recorded a powerful and evocative five-song EP.

And that’s exactly what has happened to the supremely talented Montreal-based quartet Seven Day Sons. The band, comprised of vocalist Pat DiMeo, guitarist FigZ, drummer John Zambito, and bassist Alexandre Pinette, is releasing its debut EP War of Our Love later this summer.

War of Our Love was recorded at Vespa Music Group and produced by Hiren Mistry (best known for his work with such bands as Billy Talent and Big Wreck). Vespa is owned and operated by noted producer/engineer Harry Hess, who was responsible for mastering the final product.

“It was like a dream come true. I grew up listening to bands like Billy Talent and Big Wreck, so to get a chance to record at Vespa, where those guys also recorded was amazing. It’s also the sound we were looking for. And with their team behind us, we got an amazing product,” said DiMeo.

“Harry was great to work with. He would stick around and listen to the tunes coming together and gave us advice here and there. He wanted to make sure the final result sounded as good as it could be. And working with Hiren and his crew was great. We connected so well and they brought us to a new level of focus and professionalism. I appreciated how much they went the extra mile for us,” added FigZ.

Musically, Seven Day Sons is very much an amalgam of all their key influences –1990s and 2000s alt-rock sensibilities, mixed with 1980s rock melodies and 1970s musical craftsmanship. It makes for a delightful sonic experience that is both eminently current, with a timelessness that will appeal to a wide swath of music fans.
The band is anchored around the personal camaraderie between DiMeo and FigZ, who became fast friends and collaborators after first meeting less than two years ago. FigZ and DiMeo have a creative synergy that have them working in tandem as co-writers in the vein of legendary pairings like Steven Tyler/Joe Perry or Robert Plant/Jimmy Page.

“FigZ can come up with a great idea in a minute. Then we will sit down together and arrange his ideas. Sometimes he will come up with a great guitar part and I will sing over top of it and then he will also start singing and that’s how we develop the melodies. And once we get the structure down along with the words, we bring it to the rest of the band to help develop their parts,” said DiMeo. “So it starts with FigZ and I, but it ends up being a pretty collaborative process.”

Most of the songs on the EP are about the strains and struggles of relationships gone awry, typified by the incendiary title track, which is also the first single.

“War of Our Love is about being in a relationship and fighting to keep your relationship healthy but at the same time, one or both the parties are also battling their own demons. The title is about being in this constant battle in the middle of being in love with this person,” FigZ explained.

“We all went through really bad break-ups at the same time, so when the band came together and FigZ presented this song, it really spoke to us. We all got the shivers and fell in love with it right away. We all really worked to make it as good as possible,” said DiMeo.

The track Heat explores the frustrating nature of arguments, where personal stubbornness overrides any desire to come to a resolution, leading to a perpetual poisoning of a once loving relationship.

“It’s like being right in the middle of a fight – in the heat of the battle. And the lyrics are repetitive for a reason because that’s what happens in most arguments – nobody is listening to the other person so you keep saying the same thing over and over again, louder and louder,” said DiMeo.

Revelry Eyes focuses on witnessing the disintegration of a loved one, through a combination of addiction and an unwillingness to deviate from making bad decisions.

“We had about 40 songs that we organized into categories and realized we were missing something that had a more "pop sound" to it. FigZ just started playing this great lead part on his guitar and that sparked the whole song,” said DiMeo.

“The song is about a girl who has really gone down the wrong path, and from the point of view of a guy who really loves her and wants to help her out of it. You can’t help feeling bad about this girl, but at the same time she doesn’t want to leave her hard-partying lifestyle. It’s pretty straightforward but there is a really interesting twist right at the end,” added DiMeo.

With their album complete, Seven Day Sons have now spent countless hours rehearsing and honing the songs for a live presentation that will no doubt be as energizing and intense as the songs themselves.

Once they are ready to unleash their live show, Seven Day Sons is planning an ambitious coast-to-coast tour to bring their passionate and pulse-pounding tunes to an audience ready to embrace something truly new and exciting.
