About Inquisition

There is more than one artist with this name

1. Inquisition (U.S.) is a Black Metal band formed in the United States with origins in Colombia, South America where the founder, Dagon, was living at the time.

2. Inquisition (US) was a hardcore punk band from Richmond, Virginia. They significantly influenced the local scene, and several members went on to form other seminal bands such as Strike Anywhere, River City High, and Ann Beretta.

1. The band Inquisition was formed in 1989 in Cali Colombia by Dagon. The band started as a Thrash metal act, and in 1994 evolved into raw Black Metal.

In 1996, Dagon left Colombia and moved back to the United States (Washington State where he was raised in early childhood) to continue Inquisition and search for a new drummer. That same year Dagon met Incubus who joined the band on drums and the creation of their debut full length album began. This line-up has remained stable for more than ten years and is now seen as the classic Inquisition line-up.

Inquisition resides north of Seattle Washington State, USA.

The band plays their own unique trademark of black metal involving slow, deep and dark riffing combined with sudden tempo changes to ultra tight blast beats and hyper fast riffing; at times adding melodic solos. The classic Inquisition sound involves the combination of old school thrash metal major guitar progressions with the depth and darkness of black metal's chaotic minor guitar progressions, thus creating a trademark of the Inquisition sound.

Another trademark of the Inquisition sound is Incubus' blast beat style, a form that resembles a much more powerful death metal drumming style in which the snare, hi-hats or ride work together while alternating the two kicks as opposed to alternating the snare and kick, the more traditional form.

Dagon's voice is very monotonous and chant like, intentionally trance inducing and does not sound like any voice typically used in black metal. Surrounded by the right enviroment and following the lyrical content is the best way to connect with voice of Dagon. As he has said in the past, the vocals he expresses are not to reflect that of a human, but rather that of an unseen entity in demonic form and screaming or shouting will not connect the message correctly.

Clarification:
This must be seen as a U.S. band; since 19.96 every classic full length has been written on that soil.
Dagon is a U.S. citizen, he is "American", he is however half Colombian but the only connection now is the fact he did not change the band's name when he moved back to the U.S. and evolved into the current Black Metal style.
As he has said in the past, it is the surroundings of the Pacific Northwest and Satanism itself that have inspired every single album he and Incubus have made.

2. Inquisition (US) was formed in 1991 when the members were still in high school. In early 1992 the original bass player, Leer Baker, left the band and was eventually replaced by Rob Huddleston. They recorded their first full-length album, Broken Songs, and appeared on several 7 inch records and compilations. Their most well-known recording, Revolution, I Think It's Called Inspiration, was released in early 1996 on Pop A Wheelie Records and was re-released in October 2005 on A-F Records.

Their final show was on September 8, 1996 at the Biograph Theatre in Richmond, Virginia with AFI and The Pee Tanks, although the band has announced two reunion shows to take place in Richmond, Virginia on May 18th and 19th, 2007.
