Nemrud

Nemrud is a Turkish rock band who are achieving worldwide known with their psychedelic and progressive rock music. Their work is marked by the use of Shamanic lyrics, epic story lines , innovative album art, and spiritual ambience live shows. Nemrud is one of the most noteworthy debuts of rock music in Turkey. Despite their nationality, the band is not generally considered Pop-rock because of their sound, which has much more in common with Progressive Rock groups such as Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Eloy, Camel and Yes.

Founded in 2008 by guitarist and vocalist Mert Göçay. The First line-up of the band consisted of non musicians Mert Göçay, Aycan Sarı, Harun Sönmez, Adil Giyici and Alpaslan Altun. The band has endured several line-up changes, with Mert Göçay and Aycan Sarı being consistent members of the group. Mert Topel joined the band after the record their successful debut album Journey of The Shaman.

In Summer 2007, Frank Bornemann, the founder of the Eloy, true legend Progressive Rock and Mert Göçay met in Hannover/Germany at Horus Studios which Eloy's album recorded and they became close friend. That significant detail driving Nemrud's sound from millenium to 70's. Actually they were agreed on record the Nemrud's album together but an unfortunate accurence about one of band members international travel issue.

Nemrud sound is present at the head of a wave of interest in psychedelic music, and began to attract the attention of the music industry in Turkey.

Mert Göçay is really ambitious progressive rock listener and collector has since he was 18. He followed his master minder Frank Bornemann and decided to form a band in his spare time while working. After Aycan Sarı written down of fantastic story called Journey of The Shaman, Mert Göçay was wrote the lyrics and complex compositions of 3 episodes to base the album. These 3 songs in the album telling the story of the pysical and spiritual journey of "Mitos" , a Shaman living in the steps of Central Asia, upon the message he received from the other world. These three songs represent the three kingdom in Shamanism belief. One of the founder member of Nemrud Harun Sönmez, has completed the conceptual design of the album booklet.

Nemrud has gone beyond the Turkish standard rock or popular line-chorus structure songs and pushed the technical and composition limits of rock music. Besides, there are classic, jazz and avantgarde components in their compositions. Journey of The Shaman shows the general characterictics of Progressive Rock such as changing melodies and rhythms, refrains from repetition, conceptual and abstract lyrics. The admiration of the band for the golden era of Progressive Rock; 70s reflects itself in the epical story used in the album.

The recording of Journey of The Shaman album has been completed fully as analog in November 2009 at Studio 18, one of the most important studios of Turkey under management of Levent Büyük. Levent Büyük who has completed many successful albums so far; has supported Nemrud in their album for a music type that was never tried in Turkey before and provided his talents to them with regard to the compositions, recordings, mix and mastering. During the recording process, guest musicians have joined the band; Doğaç Titiz the winner of 2008 Drummer Contest with drum compositions and records, Hakan Süersan with bas and fretless bas compositions and records.
