About nutopia

The meeting with african musicians and a totally different musical tradition was the beginning of the band. By using elements from the european gypsy jazz and mix it with african folk music they quickly experienced an universal musical language. It was a great success and the whole band with Audun Ramo on double bass was later that year invited back to East-Africa, this time to Maputo in Mozambique where they not only presented their own music, but also functioned as a house band for well know african artists. 100.000 people in the audience watched and listened to Django jazz and a fusion with a taarab ensemble over two TV broadcasted concerts. The experiences and music was brought home and the band found its missing link when they met Arild Nyborg, known from massiv touring with the group Stomp. He had studied percussion in countries like Spain, India, Jordan, Brazil, Turkey and Cuba, perfect match for the group. What if we give you the swing of the gypsies, the groovy rhythms of Africa, the exotic sounds of Arabia…
