About Under The Lake

"Effervescent, vivacious and all-together engaging" is how smoothjazz.com describes Under The Lake's music, an original sound that Don Dilorio of the North Jersey Herald and News says "doesn't sit easy in any category, thanks to its heavy doses of funkified bass and occasional soul references." It's an sound that Under The Lake refers to as "jazz, groove and attitude." Featuring David Evans on tenor sax and John Moak on trombone, the two horn line-up and UTL's original compositions are keeping the soul jazz sound made famous by The Crusaders alive.

Over the past 20 years UTL has garnered many notable accomplishments including: nominations for Best Pop-Jazz Album and Best Pop-Jazz Group in the 1994 San Diego Music Awards; “Up For Air” was listed by WBJB (NY/NJ) as one of the top 10 releases for 1996; Black Entertainment Television's BET on Jazz included the song “The Slider” on their Jazz Discoveries CD released and distributed by BMG Direct (1997); Radio and syndicated broadcast of songs from both CDs nationally and internationally; 1994 release “Dive In” was listed as Chartbound for 5 weeks on Gavin's NAC tracking. Under The Lake's last release "People Together" (2007) was on the Smooth Jazz Indie Radio Chart for 11 weeks and is receiving radio airplay throughout the country.

Under The Lake's list of credits include three internationally distributed releases and live performances with a "who's who" list of jazz artists such as Joe Sample, Billy Cobham, Keiko Matsui, Stanley Jordan, and others. Under The Lake have received immense critical praise in local, regional, national, and international publications including JazzTimes, Jazziz, France's Jazz Hot, Canada's Exclaim, Germany's Cascade, as well as The New York Daily News, UTNE Reader, and The Music Paper. UTL received a four star rating for UTL's 1996 release "Up For Air" from the All Music Guide and in 2007 they had a Top 50 charting release "People Together"
