Top Shelf is comprised of well-seasoned musicians from all over the country. Elements of rock, blues, funk, fusion, jazz, and country all come together to form a sound that is in a category all by itself. The band covers multiple genres and puts their own unique twist on everything they play. Listeners have commented that they enjoy hearing Top Shelf cover songs more than they like the original versions! Lead vocalist AC Roman is a native of Long Island, New York. She has a powerful voice and can belt out rock tunes with the best of them. But she’s more than that. She has a real sense of dynamics to go with all that power. Her voice has a very soulful quality – smoky and bluesy. Besides being one of the best vocal talents in Indy, she can rap! Maybe it’s a New York thing, but it’s authentic! Bassist Tom Janke is originally from Houston, Texas. The low end is in very capable hands with this man at the helm. He knows how to groove and plays with a sophistication that allows him to hold down his end of the rhythm section while adding some tasty melodic phrasing. But don’t let all that intellectual stuff fool you – this guy knows how to rock! Drummer/vocalist Eddie Venable is the local guy in the band from the north side of Indy. Hard-driving rock, smooth ballads, infectious dance grooves – he flawlessly provides the backbone for all of it. The word “solid” doesn’t do him justice. He can be technical or just keep it sweet and simple, but he always locks in the beat with feel and precision. And if you hear a high vocal harmony – that’s Eddie too. Guitarist/vocalist Matt Fearington hails from Virginia Beach, VA. The perfect complement to AC’s singing style is Matt’s guitar work. Even though he adds to the vocal structure of the band, his real voice is in his fingers. There is an art to keeping songs sounding full when there’s only one guitar in the band and this guy has it down. Funky rhythms, blistering solos, expressive playing – that’s what he brings. Keyboardist Todd Brown is from nearby Columbus, OH. Todd is pretty much every other instrument you hear on stage. Punchy horn lines, thick B3 tones, soulful Rhodes, ethereal synth pads, rollicking pianos... that’s all Todd. His masterful musicianship and superb gear give him a limitless palette to make any song from any genre come alive. His playing chops are loaded with technical proficiency combined with emotive taste and feel. As individual musicians, they are all veterans of the trade that have accomplished a great deal. They have played well over 1,000 shows between them. But it doesn’t matter how good the musicians are in a band if they don’t gel. Top Shelf has killer musicians that know how to play together and place the emphasis on the quality of the music above all else. They have created a sound like no other in this town.
