The Undead Hearts

Are you along for the ride — or will you be left in the dust behind them?

Back before one could have a favorite social media platform, MySpace was king. Not only were people far and wide taking full advantage, but musicians were as well. Especially music producer Draven Midnight. In 2007 Midnight was asked to contribute to ‘The Nurse Who Loved Me,’ a Failure tribute record by producer Larry Suglio at Pop Up Records. Larry, intrigued by Midnight’s demos, requested a rendition of “Wonderful Life.”

Despite experiencing dark times and the missed opportunity to appear on the tribute, Midnight joined forces with punk rock producer Danny Bailystocky at Revolution 9 Records in Hollywood, CA; the result saw a limited online release and became a Limewire favorite cover song of 2010. With that under his belt, Midnight began to set the foundation for his next career move, The Undead Hearts. Influenced by the alternative rock greats of the ‘90s and early ‘00s; Undead Hearts’ sound falls somewhere between A Perfect Circle, Pixies, and System of a Down.

The overall sound and style of The Undead Hearts come from not only their current lineup but also a myriad of talent that has come through since 2010. Present core members, bassist, “Boom Boom Bass” Harley Duggan, and “Living Dead Drummer,” Nick Mason; provide a rock-solid rhythm section for singer Draven Midnight to shine his haunting vocal gift and crafty guitar work in front of audiences. While recent addition We’re No Gentlemen guitarist and songwriter, Dan Schiz brings newfound layers of depth and texture to upcoming material.

Alongside Draven Midnight the past ten years has seen a carousel of almost a dozen skilled musicians from all walks of life; Blair Sinta (Chris Cornell, Alanis Morissette), Michael Eisenstein (Letters To Cleo, Josie and the Pussycats), Bryan Keeling (Fuel, Shooter Jennings), Jeff Freidl (A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, Eagles of Death Metal), James Decker (Stitched Up Heart), Matthew Dennis (Diamante, Zoviet), multi-instrumentalist Ryan Canestro, guitarist Dave Gamble, mix artist Ronan Chris Murphy (Gwar, King Crimson, Assassin’s Creed), Grammy-winning mastering artist Hans de Kline, and guitar virtuoso Ramón Blanco (Grandson).

All of the above have helped guide The Undead Hearts to where they are today, whether in the studio for 2020 slated release, ‘Love, Lust, Blood & Ashes,’ or on a multitude of iconic Los Angeles stages from The Viper Room to Saban Theater to Whisky a Go Go. Which, in 2016 The Undead Hearts saw a string of dates gracing famed venues as support for the likes of Misfits singer, Michale Graves; California goth-rock pioneers, Christian Death and a one night only appearance on comeback tour for Cinderella’s, Tom Keifer.

Audiences have continuously been captivated by the overall message of The Undead Heart’s music. Because in a world riddled with so much darkness, one can always use an audible push towards overcoming the odds, transforming, and shining through bleak times. That is why fans have felt moved throughout the years by not only Frances Ford Copolla-inspired “Strange Things” but songs like “Committed” which came from a dark place. Midnight notes, “Written while experiencing deep depression, ‘Committed’ explores themes of overcoming abandonment and suicidal tendencies. An anxious, tension-building intro leads to a space of stillness and uncertainty only to be smashed into anthemic, upbeat rhythms, and expansive chorus.”

Having proven themselves locally, both live and on Reverbnation as a recurring Top 40 favorite on the Los Angeles alternative rock charts, The Undead Hearts have shown no sign of slowing down. The Undead Hearts have also set sights on expanding their reach by synching their signature sound to motion pictures and broadcast television. With ‘Love, Lust, Blood & Ashes’ on the horizon, these West coast rockers are looking ahead at the college tour circuit in 2021 as they inch closer to becoming one of the most notable acts in the alternative rock genre today.
