About The Heliocentrics

You may or may not know "the Heliocentrics". But the chances are you do know some of the artists they have collaborated and worked with since the bands conception in 2006. The list includes “DJ Shadow”, “Mulatu Astake”, “Dr Lloyd Miller“, “Madlib”, “Adm/Mrr”, “Mr Chop”, and “The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble”, to name but a few. The band is about to release ’13 Degrees of Reality’ their second album on Now Again, the L.A. based label of long standing friend and music taste maker Eothan Alapatt. This record is a culmination of many years of musical evolution - which has seen the band constantly shifting their musical parameters and form, never conforming long enough to any particular musical genre to be labelled and assimilated into the multitudes of musical styles already categorized. Of course within this melting pot there are many discernible influences most noticably: ‘Psyche’, ‘Music Concrete’, ‘Post Punk’, ‘Library music’,'The Velvet Underground', 'Kraut rock’, ‘Indigenous music’ and early 70’s ‘Italian Soundtracks’ being just some of the many inspirations behind this current release. This album is where Music and Art collide in a heady mix of psychedlia and experimentation. The bands collective drive is to find their own individual voice, not content with imitating what has gone on before them but trying to fuse their many influences with what they themselves want to hear, being equal parts musicians and music listeners. Somehow they manage to set themselves apart from the rest, thanks to their commitment to musicianship, constant re-invention and distinctive studio production. “13 Degrees of Reality is entirely live (with the exception of some overdubs), recorded in the Heliocentrics' own vintage analog studio, and is a dark journey through a genre-defying sprawl of twisted analogue sounds and off kilter rhythms’ held together with a musicianship that only comes from a band that has played together for a time”. We're a London collective of musicians who are linked by a common aim to create our own musical identity, not following trends or genres but making the music we want to hear but cannot find.
