About Soap

S.O.A.P. consist of the sisters HEIDI (born Heidi Sørensen in 1979, in Kampar, Malaysia) and LINE (born Line Sørensen in 1982, in Perak, Malaysia). Their father is Danish and their mother is Malay - and throughout their adolescence the girls lived in both countries. They began performing at the age of four and five - and along with their parents they have travelled all over Malaysia as well as Denmark and given concerts, primarily at charity events. They have performed on TV as well as on the radio - and have recorded albums with other artists for the benefit of UNICEF and Red Cross. They sing, dance and play several instruments. They also write songs of their own which, according to plan, will be featured on their scond album.

The third major player in the story of S.O.A.P. is songwriter, producer and rapper Remee. He met Heidi and Line in 1995 while on tour with his then band Sound Of Seduction. The two girls wanted to interview him about his carreer - and because he found them so charming, they have stayed in touch ever since. Along the way Remee realised that Heidi and Line were good at singing and dancing - and he invited them to visit his studio for a test recording of one of his songs. The result was so successful that shortly afterwards Heidi and Line signed a recording contract. After that Remee began writing new songs - based on the stories which Line and Heidi had told him about their lives and dreams - and towards the end of 1997 the album was finished. It was entitled NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS and released on March 18, 1998, in Denmark.

One of the really great managers in the pop world, Englishman Simon Fuller - some calls him the man behind Spice Girls - also manages S.O.A.P. He too fell in love with S.O.A.P.and before long their collaboration became a reality.

With the release of their first single, THIS IS HOW WE PARTY, the two S.O.A.P.- sisters got a terrific beginning of their carreer. The tuneful song immediately went number one. Not only was it the most played song on the radio and in clubs throughout Denmark - but the public also embraced the girls and sent the single to the top of the sales charts which resulted in a platinum-single for THIS IS HOW WE PARTY.

Subsequently THIS IS HOW WE PARTY was given a salsa treatment by the hit mixers of The Almighty Association (who has remixed for Alexia and Jimmy Ray among others). The result was a super-salsa-mix - and yet another bona fide hit.

LADIDI LADIDA was S.O.A.P.'s second single and maxi. The latter contains no less than 4 different versions since this pop smash was left in the hands of the Danish super-remixer and DJ TNT. Together with S.O.A.P.'s musical string-puller Remee TNT made LADIDI LADIDA PART II which is an ace track for dancefloors everywhere while more advanced and occult clubs and discos may prefer TNT's EXTENDED CLUB MIX and TNT's DIRTY PHUNK MIX. Of course the maxi also contains the original album version of LADIDI LADIDA. Money simply will not buy any more rhythm than is heard on S.O.A.P.'s LADIDI LADIDA 4 TRACK MAXI where S.O.A.P. meet TNT meets Remee results in intense dance music of the finest quality!

S.O.A.P's third single, STAND BY YOU, is a classic feelgood pop song which many predicted to be the greatest hit on the album. Producer and songwriter Remee and his engineers went on a trip to London to Sarm West Studios (Trevor Horn's home ground) in order to nail the sound of a popsingle in the year 1998. And STAND BY YOU (London) did indeed have a truly unique intensive presence and quickly went to #1 and stayed there - among the ten most played songs - for more than ten weeks.

The title song became the fourth single to be taken from the album, in a fantastic remix by the hit champion David Sears (the man behind Karen Ramirez' smash hit Looking for Love). The single was released as a maxi which includes an almost reggaelike version of the song (made by Remee), the original album-version and finally a long version of Dave Sears floorfiller. The cover is drawn by Helene Johansen who in December 1998 won a competition for creating a record cover for S.O.A.P.

The single NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS became the S.O.A.P.-girls fourth consecutive top 10 hit on the Danish radio charts. NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS was also S.O.A.P.'s second international release - and the single along with its ghost-video companion was made available in most of the world in the early summer of '99.

When in May 1999 the album NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS celebrated its first birthday at IFPI's Top 100, it had long since gone platinum (at present 85.000 copies) - and it is approaching double platinum (100.000). However, S.O.A.P. has also made an impression on the map of international pop. THIS IS HOW WE PARTY has topped the charts in most places of the world. In Finland S.O.A.P. received gold for THIS IS HOW WE PARTY while the album went to the Top 5. In Japan the album was imported - and sold 10.000 copies BEFORE its officiel release. THIS IS HOW WE PARTY spent more than 10 weeks on Billboards Hot 100 chart of the best selling and most played singles in the U.S.A. - a fairly good beginning for a debut act in the states.

Between July 8 and August 14 S.O.A.P. toured as a support act for no lesser a band than The Backstreet Boys. The tour was one of the most coveted during that summer - since Backstreet Boys were one of the altogether hottest acts.

Within 15 months the sisters came from nowhere and had an enormous hit with the THIS IS HOW WE PARTY. When the nominations for Danish Grammy '99 were announced, S.O.A.P. could rejoice in being featured in no less than four categories -, namely as Danish Act of the Year, Danish Newcomer of the Year, Danish Pop Album of the Year along with producer and songwriter Remee who was nominated as Producer of the Year. As a further example of recognition S.O.A.P. was also among the finalists for the Danish Radio Hit of the Year Award with the #1 single STAND BY YOU. So it was not without trepidation that Line and Heidi in their beautiful dresses took the stage - where they also performed a visually extravagant version of STAND BY YOU. Along the way the girls found their way to the stage twice in order to receive the desirable awards - in the equally coveted categories as Danish Pop Album of the Year and Danish Newcomer of the Year.

In Australia and New Zealand S.O.A.P. are incredibly popular - so far they have gone platin (70.000) with THIS IS HOW WE PARTY and gold (35.000) with LADIDI LADIDA in Australia, and gone gold with the album NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS.

The girls are also popular in France. The singles THIS IS HOW WE PARTY and LADIDI LADIDA have sold more than 900.000 copies while the album has sold 40.000 copies. Ever since the release of NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS Heidi and Line has travelled round the world in order to promote their album. They have travelled far and wide to places like the U.S.A., Japan, Australia and practically all of Europe. With the release of NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS in the spring and summer of 1999 Heidi and Line travelled around the world once more.

After a couple of monts of well-deserved holidays Lenie and Heidi began preparing their next album...
