About Sarah Spencer

"From up-tempo country/pop to raw, honest folk ballads, Spencer's style of new americana truly shines."

- - S U N S H I N E A M E R I C A N A - -

“Sunshine Americana” – An apt way to describe the music of a Florida native who writes pop songs that have been steeped in the influence of folk, country, and popular music of the last 20 years.

Sarah Spencer brought her love of the song to Nashville, Tennessee in 2012, where she has been writing commercially crafted country/pop songs in the storied writer’s rooms of Music Row.

Since then, her songwriting has garnered her many recognitions and awards, including winning the 2015 Frank Brown Song Contest with her song, “Little One Bedroom.”

Spencer writes and performs regularly on stages all over Nashville. Songwriter venues such as The Bluebird, Commodore Grill, and The Listening Room have become regular haunts and frequent outlets for her own material. She actively pitches her songs to up and coming artists (and has acquired a few indie cuts along the way) and lends her chops as an accomplished vocalist to other songwriters as a session singer.

Born and raised in the Sunshine State, in the gently lilting hills of central Florida, Spencer was brought up in the horse capital of the world – a connection to the land that has fostered a deep love of nature, animals, and music.

When Spencer started taking classical piano lessons as an unruly six-year-old, she quickly learned what she loved the most (and the least) about the world of performance. Incredibly reluctant to practice the lengthy classical pieces she was assigned, she instead began composing her own; a passion her teacher recognized and fostered.

In the following years, Spencer amassed a sizable catalog of instrumental pieces and lyrics. In high school, she began collaborating with family friend Steve Morse (guitarist to Dixie Dregs, Deep Purple, Steve Morse Band, Flying Colors) producing a series of demos from writing sessions that would later lead to their first, full length album, “Angelfire”.

“Angelfire” toured briefly in California and Florida and was well-received by fans all over the world.

Sarah currently works as a session singer and graphic designer, while pursuing her ultimate goal of becoming a staff writer at a Nashville publishing company.
