About Quetzal Guerrero
When he was only four, Arizona native Quetzal (Ket-sal) Guerrero picked up the violin and hasn’t put it down since. As a child and adolescent, Quetzal studied violin at the famous International Academy of the Suzuki Method, in Matsumoto, Japan, and the Conservatorio Pernambucano de Musica in Recife, Brazil. Throughout the years he has become an outstanding multi-instrumentalist and performer fluid with his voice, violin, guitar, and percussion as well as an accomplished dancer and Capoeirista. Quetzal’s innate musicality and work ethic has led to collaborations and performances with a long string of great musicians and performers, including Macy Gray, RES, Tito Puente, Lalo Guerrero, Christian Castro, Acoustic Alchemy, and Jorge Santana. Quetzal’s talents have also garnered praise from world-renowned producers and DJs, including Osunlade, Rocky Dawuni, Vikter Duplaix, and Garth Trinidad of KCRW 89.9 FM, Los Angeles. Q’s artistry, much like his American, Mexican, and Brazilian heritage, bridges many cultures and styles. The result is music that is both familiar and fresh to the listener, offering an unassuming yet explorative convergence of genres and influences spanning American Folk, Soul, Reggae, Rock and Brazilian rhythms. A consummate and electrifying performer, Quetzal exudes a brilliance that is rare in contemporary music. His sound is inspired by the likes of Sting, Jimi Hendrix, and Santana. Following the release of the critically praised “Vamos Conversar” EP (2007) and “Now” (2009) through Yoruba Records, Q's second full-length album, “Coiza Boa” (English translation "Good Thing"), released the summer of 2011, is his best work to date. Modern roots music of the Americas.
