The Quartet Berlin Tokyo was founded in 2011 by students of the two conservatories in Berlin. Only a few months later, they celebrated initial success at the International Music Competition of the ARD in Munich 2012 when awarded the Prize of the Jeunesses Musicales Germany.

In 2013, the Quartet obtained the Second Prize at the International "Salieri Zinetti" Competition in Verona as well as the Audience Prize, followed by the Second Prize of the Young Concert Artists Audition New York in 2014. In the same year, the ensemble won the First Prize and again an Audience Award at the Orlando International String Quartet Competition and recently(2015) the Third Prize at the prestigious “Franz Schubert” competition in Graz.
Also they won "Aoyama Barock Saal Prize" at the Aoyama Music Foundation, and Second Prize and Carl Nielsen Prize at the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition in Copenhagen, and "HSBC Laureates 2015" from Aix-en-Provence Festival.

Previously, the Quartet Berlin Tokyo received several scholarships, including scholarships from the Matsuo Academic Foundation Tokyo and Ottilie Selbach Redslob Foundation. In October 2014, the ensemble was awarded another scholarship, this time by the Irene Steels-Wilsing Foundation.

The members of the Quartet Berlin Tokyo are currently attending the class of Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet) at the Academy of Music, Drama and Media Hanover. Moreover, the young ensemble has received musical inspiration from David Alberman, András Keller, Gerhard Schulz, Eberhard Feltz, Hartmut Rohde, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Heime Müller, the Artemis Quartet, and the Arditti Quartet.

The Quartet Berlin Tokyo was given its name at the suggestion of Toshio Hosokawa in the course of an invitation to the Takefu International Music Festival. But there is more to the name than reference to these two metropolises; it is rather about a path running between them – and this is precisely the issue the young artists are engaged with. It is therefore not coincidental that they feel committed to the music of Béla Bartók and his striving for a synthesis between East and West.

The ensemble has performed at numerous national and international concert venues, including the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In addition, the four young musicians were invited to renowned festivals such as the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, the Takefu International Music Festival, the Heidelberger Frühling, Rheinhessen Music Festival, and Aix-en-Provence Festival.

Over the next three years, the Quartet will also perform in its first residence six concerts in the new concert hall of Rokkatei in Sapporo.

クァルテット・ベルリン・トウキョウ Quartet Berlin-Tokyo
2011年、武生国際音楽祭出演を機に、ベルリン芸術大学と国立ベルリン・ハンスアイスラー音楽大学に当時留学中の守屋剛志、モティ・パヴロフ、杉田恵理、松本瑠衣子の4人で結成。その後、ハイデルベルクの春、エクサン・プロヴァンス、オスロ室内楽、フランクフルト・ホルツハウゼン城、ゴスラー、ラインヘッセン、ヒッツァカーなどの音楽祭に招待され、ベルリンフィルハーモニー・ランチタイムコンサート、アムステルダム・コンセルトヘボウ、北ドイツ放送協会、在ベルリン日本大使館、ベルリン日独センター、ヒンデミット協会主催コンサートなど等に出演。12年、ARDミュンヘン国際コンクール弦楽四重奏部門で特別賞を受賞。13年、イタリア・ヴェローナのサリエリ・ツィネッティ国際室内楽コンクールで第２位と聴衆賞を受賞。14年、ベルリンのイレーネ・シュティールス・ヴィルジング財団コンクール第3位。ニューヨークのYCA(ヤング・コンサート・アーティスト)オーディション第2位。オランダのオルランド国際室内楽コンクールで優勝、併せて聴衆賞を受賞。青山・バロックザール賞を受賞。15年、フランツ・シューベルト現代音楽国際コンクール(オーストリア・グラーツ)第3位。カール・ニールセン国際室内楽コンクール(デンマーク・コペンハーゲン)第2位、併せてカール・ニールセン賞を受賞。13年、14年度松尾学術財団から奨学金を得て、ハノーファー音大でオリヴァー・ヴィレ氏（クス・クァルテット）に師事するほか、エバーハルド・フェルツ、アンドラーシュ・ケラー、ゲルハルト・シュルツ、ライナー・シュミット、ハイメ・ミュラー、デイビッド・アルバーマンの各氏、アルテミス・クァルテット、アルディッティ・クァルテットに教えを受ける。現在、ベルリンを拠点に活動。15年より札幌・六花亭ふきのとうホールのレジデンスクァルテット（3年間契約）。また、エクサン・プロヴァンス音楽祭からHSBC賞2015を授与され、3年間にわたり同音楽祭の大使としてパリ・フィルハーモニー、オペラ・ドゥ・リールを含むヨーロッパ各地で演奏を予定している。

Die Aufführung des Quartet Berlin Tokyo ist aufrichtig, Begeisterung und Liebe zur Musik beeindrucken stark (Toshio Hosokawa)
Das Quartet Berlin Tokyo gründete sich 2011 aus Studierenden der beiden Berliner Musikhochschulen und konnte bereits wenige Monate später seinen ersten Erfolg beim Internationalen Musikwettbewerb der ARD in München 2012 verbuchen, als es mit dem Förderpreis der Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland ausgezeichnet wurde.
2013 folgten der Zweite Preis und Publikumspreis beim Internationalen »Salieri-Zinetti« Wettbewerb in Verona und 2014 der Zweite Preis der Young Concert Artist Audition New York. Im gleichen Jahr gewann das Ensemble den Ersten Preis und wieder den Publikumspreis beim Orlando International String Quartet Competition. Und 2015 erhielt das Quartett den dritten Platz beim bedeutendem „Franz Schubert und die Musik der Moderne” Streichquartett Wettbewerb in Graz, den Zweiten Preis und Carl Nielsen Preis beim International Carl Nielsen Kammermusik Wettbewerb in Kopenhagen und HSBC Laureate 2015 beim Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
Zuvor erhielt das Quartet Berlin Tokyo verschiedene Stipendien, darunter von der Matsuo Academic Foundation Tokyo, ‘‘Kyoto-Barock-Saal-Preis 2015‘‘ und der Ottilie-Selbach-Redslob-Stiftung. Im Oktober 2014 wurde das Ensemble noch mit einem Stipendium der Irene Steels-Wilsing Stiftung ausgezeichnet.
Derzeit besucht es die Meisterklasse von Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartett) an der Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. Musikalische Anregungen erhielt das junge Ensemble außerdem von David Alberman, András Keller, Eberhard Feltz, Gerhard Schulz, Hartmut Rohde, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Heime Müller, dem Artemis Quartett und Arditti Quartet.
Das Quartet Berlin Tokyo erhielt seinen Namen auf Anregung von Toshio Hosokawa im Zuge einer Einladung zum Takefu International Music Festival. Doch steht der Name für das Quartett nicht nur für diese beiden Metropolen, vielmehr verläuft zwischen Ihnen ein Weg – und um diesen geht es den jungen Künstlern. Nicht zufällig fühlen sie sich daher der Musik Béla Bartóks verpflichtet und der von ihm angestrebten Synthese zwischen Osten und Westen.
Das Ensemble konzertierte bereits auf vielen nationalen und internationalen Konzertpodien und war unter anderem in der Hamburger Laeiszhalle, der Berliner Philharmonie und dem Concertgebouw Amsterdam zu Gast. Zudem wurden die vier jungen Musiker von namhaften Festivals eingeladen, wie dem Oslo Kammermusikfestival, dem Takefu International Music Festival und dem Heidelberger Frühling.
In den kommenden drei Jahren wird das Quartett außerdem im Rahmen seiner ersten Residenz sechs Konzerte in der neuen Konzerthalle der Rokkatei in Sapporo spielen.
