About Profusion
Profusion philosophy is to combine the mediterranean and georgian cultures by using the rock as a unifying musical fabric. In their songs, wide georgian instrumental and choral parts are merged together with the melodic and harmonic flavours of the italian rock tradition. American progressive rock and virtuoso instrumental parts are also important elements of the musical language of the band.
Profusion was formed in the summer of 2002 by Gionatan Caradonna and Vladimer Sichinava. After many changes in the lineup during the years, today Profusion are Davide Pepi (guitars), Duccio Pellati (bass), Gionatan Caradonna (keyboards), Vladimer Sichinava (drums), Francesca Celati (second voice) and Mattia Mattei (main voice).
After the first self produced album (One Piece Puzzle, 2006) the band played several concerts in Italy and passed through an intense phase of writing and composition that gave birth to the songs gathered in their second album Rewotower (2012). Chuta Chani, the most famous single from this album, was played for the first time in 2009, together with maestro Mauro Pagani during the 9th edition of “La Città Aromatica” (Siena). Rewotower claimed participations of international artists such as the Italian jazz singer Titta Nesti and the Georgian jazz singer Maia Baratashvili and Simon Hosford (Tommy Emmanuel Band, Virgil Donati’s album On the Virg) in the song Dedalus falling.
Rewotower was the first time Profusion appeared on the international music scene. The promotion of the new album started with the Veruno 2DaysProg+1 Festival, where Profusion shared the stage with The Flower Kings, Pain Of Salvation, IQ and Angelo Branduardi. After that, the band took part in the ProgSud Festival in Marseille (2013), the Progressive Promotion Festival in Russelsheim (2014), and the Crescendo Festival in Saint Palais sur Mer, Bordeaux (2015).
In 2015 Profusion released its 3rd album Phersu and the video of the first single Vanity fair. In this album the band strengthen its philosophy of combining the georgian sounds with its rock attitude, thanks to the collaborations of Mamuka Ghaghanidze (from The Shin, Georgian jazz/rock band based in Germany) and the world class mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili. For Anita, the band composed “The wrinkled maiden”, a song about love and memory in illness, whose incomes were donated to an association for Alzheimer’s disease.
In August 2017 the band performed an opera-rock concert playing their songs together with the Georgian Philharmonic National Orchestra at the Batumi State Musical Centre. The leading artist of the concert was Anita Rachvelishvili, that played with the band “The clef of memories”, the first single from the band forthcoming concept album.
