Phil Thompson aka Moonface is a DJ and producer of electronic dance music with an impressive career spanning almost 15 years. In 1996 Phil started playing out in his local scene in Southampton but it was 2 years before he finally gained the recognition he was looking for. Years spent religiously sending out tracks to labels and DJ's finally paid off when Danny Howells (then Bedrock resident) picked up his tracks and started playing them. John Digweed heard his stuff and liked it enough to sign him to the Bedrock label. Following Danny's departure from Bedrock in late 2000, Phil took over the warm up slot for over 5 years. Since then Phil has been a regular at high profile events in the UK as well as major club nights and dance festivals all over Europe.

Phil’s first release on Bedrock was a double A sided vinyl called Futurized Fearz/Overactive. Since then his discography continues to grow ever more impressive with regular releases on many respected dance music labels. Moonface tracks feature on numerous, compilation CD’s including the Global Underground and Nubreed series to name but a few! A six track mini album 'Between Worlds' was voted album of the month in 2001 by several magazines.


In 2005 Phil found himself looking for a new direction. This turned up in the form of DJs Tim Cook & Tommy Mundell, founders of underground club night Cartel. The boys met when booked to play a swanky mansion party in the South of England. A friendship was forged and it wasn’t long before Phil was asked to join the Cartel. They now host and DJ at regular Cartel nights in the South of England and London, playing with the likes of industry heavy weights such as Terry Francis, Adultnapper, Ashley Casselle, Rui Da Silva and Omid 16b and showcasing upcoming talent like Tommy Four Seven and DJ Sonny. The night has grown into something very unique....a trinity of very distinctive, very unique styles that make perfect sense.

Since Cartel Phil has discovered new inspiration and the direction he was looking for and it shows in his new productions. These, like his DJ sets, always push the boundaries but remain consistent with pure quality. High energy, driving and relentless, Phil’s very unique style encompasses ‘other’ world sounds, tribal beats, trancey melodies and percussive techno. His infectious energy behind the decks is as tireless as it is entertaining and his complete professionalism a testament to his complete lack of ego.
