About Michael Morrow

Best known for uncanny abilities in the world of the Grateful tribute, Michael Morrow is keeping the flame burning bright and the fans buzzing. Making regular stage appearances with touring GD related projects and tributes as well as fronting the band PURE JERRY, he has earned a solid reputation and become one of the "go-to" guys on the "Grateful stage". In 2005, Dark Star Orchestra called Michael "...the best singer we auditioned..." after MM was up for the coveted keyboard slot eventually filled by Other Ones alum Rob Barraco. Morrow's vast musical skills and "Dead On" vocals have kept him on the short list for many top Dead related acts nationally, including recent considerations by Melvin Seals and JGB (on guitar), and a 2009 stage appearance with Donna Jean Godchaux and David Gans for the Sat night finale at Gratefulfest 10.

A dynamic and hardworking singer, musician and entertainer, Michael Morrow has performed with many top Rock and Jamband acts including Bob Weir, Govt Mule, Derek Trucks, Ben Harper, Joan Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band, Jeff Buckley, David Grisman, David Nelson, Merle Saunders, Leo Kotke, Bruce Cockburn, New Riders of the Purple Sage,Marshall Tucker Band,Jimmy Buffet, Big Sugar, Cowboy Junkies, Kingfish, Chicago Afrobeat Project, John Jorgenson, Eric Johnson, , See Peoples, Kid Creole, Tony Trishka, The Toadies, Goldfinger,Zen Tricksters and Toni Brown.

But MM isn't just busy in GD circles, he spent nearly a decade touring nationally and appearing with many touring Funk, Reggae and Dub acts on bass, keyboards and guitar. Ithaca area Reggae artist Jah Witness called him "...King keysman and guitsy on the scene". Morrow has done live gigs with the likes of Pato Banton, Junior Marvin, Yellow Man,Stevie Culture,Junior Reid, Fully Fullwood, Tony Chin, The Itals, Afromotive, Spiritual Rez,The Meditations, John Brown's Body, Jah Works, Truth And Rights, done sessions with Earl "Chinna" Smith, Niyorah, Jah Menelek, Sista Fiyah and recently appeared live with Virgin Island chatter Gange at NYC's Sullivan Hall " Michael also recently worked on studio recordings by Funkchurch, Railroad Fever,Twentyfirst Centurians, the 2011 N.O.W. soundtrack with SF soul singer Pamela Parker and placed a song "Groove" on the soundtrack for 2010 Indie Award winning film "No Boundaries". Michael has also done live sessions with BB King drummer Tony Coleman, Peter Himmelman, Robert Hazard and legendery Phila guitarist Mike Tyler (G-Love,LL Cool J,Schooly D)

Born in Cape May in 1965, Michael Jay Morrow was raised in South Jersey. He studied and performed music throughout the eighties before becoming a professional full time in 1987. Since then MM has played with many great artists and become a sought after producer, guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist in the studio and live. A road hard, respected musician and teacher, he has enjoyed a career loaded with accomplishments including recently being voted July winner of the 2009 RELIX magazine Jam Off contest. MM has performed many festivals like the Kalamazoo Island Fest, Nelson Ledges Quarry, Hookah on the Hill, Clearwater Revival, Pocono Gathering, Wiggins Park Garcia tribute, Wilmer's Park Concert Series, West Virginia Mountain Festival, Ithaca NY's Musefest, Bethlehem Musikfest and large venues like the Mann Music Center, Camden's Tweeter Center and Wilmington's Blue Rock Stadium. Michael has also played at many larger club venues like House of Blues, BB Kings NYC, Woodstock's Bearsville Theater, Revolution Hall, Sullivan Hall and the World Cafe Live, where he appeared four times since 2004, including shows with Leon Russell and Black Uhuru's Junior Reid.

In the 90's, MM was twice featured performer for the Prism cable series "Live at the Middle East", also performing live on MTV at the 1993 US Snowboard Championships. Beside performing everywhere from coffee houses to playing for crowds of over twenty thousand, Michael recorded two records in the nineties with Grammy winning producer David Ivory (Roots, Eryka Badu) including 1994 Slide CD "Focus" which won Best Funk Award at the Delaware Valley NARAS Awards the same year. Michael has also appeared on the WHYY radio folk show with Phila Folk Fest Host Gene Shay and was featured on the 1995 Cyndi Drue WMMR Christmas show.
