About Leek

Leek & The War Wick Tragedy is the brainchild of Luke Humphries, a composer, musician and audio engineer from Melbourne. In 2010 Leek & The War Wick Tragedy released their first EP titled Live and Let Love, which consisted of 12 original recordings and sold over 500 copies. Luke promoted this EP by offering free concerts in parks, street corners and alleyways all around the Melbourne CBD. The follow-up EP Take the World with Your Smile was released in 2011 to much acclaim within the indie Melbourne music scene. As many of the songs were inspired by depression, Luke performed this album at suicide awareness meetings for various Victorian councils. Luke also performed this album at multiple Melbourne venues and was the number #1 album sold at Fist to Face during the first month of release. The single from this EP, Mercy, was awarded in the top 20 songs in the ISC (international song writing contest). The band soon after the success of Take the World with Your Smile entered the Red Bull Bedroom Jam competition and was one of four artists that were chosen to perform in the finale of the competition. They achieved second place in the finale. Luke immediately began working on his first full-length album One. The leading single, I Beg & I Plead was released in 2012 and Leek & The War Wick Tragedy went onto tour the East Coast of Australia. Upon the return from this tour Luke spent the next year in Daylesford continuing to work on the album One. He then went onto release One as a free gift to his fans in early 2014. In 2013 Leek & The War Wick Tragedy were picked up to support Hugo Race (former member of The Wreckery and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) in his tour of the East Coast of Australia, with their final performance in Luke’s home state of Victoria at the Northcote Social Club. In 2014 the song Hey Hey Hey from One was chosen to feature on the popular ABC show Time of Our Lives. Luke has been tirelessly working on his second album Two, which he hopes will be released in mid-late 2015. This will also feature the long awaited return for Leek & The War Wick Tragedy to the live music scene.
