About Iron Curtain

A Great Minimal Synth Band.
Minimal Synth is refered frequently to as Coldwave music, this long lost subgenre of the Electronic subsection will rise up from its grave. Minimal Synth is the catch-all term for Coldwave, Flexipop, Italian Disco and Minimal Synth itself. They each have their own aspects and variation, but they all share a common similiarity. This experimental music is very reminscient of of Synth Pop, you know those hits from the 80s that everyone loves, and why wouldn't it be? Minimal Synth inspired these artists to come up with such great use of the synthisizer.

Minimal Synth's existance was very short, spanning only about 6 years. From 1979 till about 1985, hundreds of artists composed some of the most beautiful pieces that made wonderful use of the synthisizer. Not all of it uses a synth, and that's where one distiction comes in. Coldwave music would be Minimal Synth, without the synth.

The sound of Minimal Synth varies from artist to artist, but fundamentally everything is synthy and mostly somber. This quote best describes it... "[Minimal Synth is] experiemental music that is very nihilistic, distant, austere and very [abstractly and literally] synthetic all at once." The lyrics and demeanor always is based on tension or frustration, love and hate of life, pessimisim, optimism, the romance of a time lost (that we generally throught we know or that we perfectly remember), or the will to be ahead of it's time.

Minimal Synth shares a common vein with Goth Rock music. However, Goth Rock focuses mainly on only the dark depression and symbolism of death. Minimal Synth can cover this, but it has many styles that don't directly deal with death or symbols of death. It is more effectly like concrete daily life, sadness and gloomy. Reality behind a grey screen. Yet, this does not apply to all Minimal Synth, only that portion of it.
