About DJ Cassidy

DJ Cassidy has been at the nexus of music, fashion, and nightlife for over half his living years as the go-to deejay for your favorite music impresario, fashion icon, entertainment mogul, cultural trendsetter, and…world leader. When President Obama wanted a deejay for his Inaugurations and fiftieth birthday party at the White House, there's only one person he called. When Oprah Winfrey celebrated the opening of her school in South Africa on New Years Eve, there’s only one person she called. When Jay Z needed a deejay for his wedding to Beyoncé and a support act for his Legends Of The Summer Stadium Tour with Justin Timberlake, there's only one person he called. When Usher needed a support act for his UR Experience Tour, there's only one person he called.

A longstanding bridge between disparate worlds, DJ Cassidy has channeled his diverse experiences into his own music. "I'm on a mission to bring the greatest and most universal dance music of all time back to the airwaves, back to nightlife, back to the dance floor," proclaims Cassidy. To achieve his mission, Cassidy united the legendary architects of the worldwide dance hits of the late 1970s and early 1980s with the most revered songwriters and recording artists of today.

Like his approach to deejaying, DJ Cassidy's approach to production is unbound by genre. For his debut single, "Calling All Hearts," Cassidy united pop superstars Robin Thicke and Jessie J with Earth, Wind & Fire's Philip Bailey, Verdine White, and Larry Dunn and Chic's Nile Rodgers. For his second release, "Make The World Go Round," Cassidy brought together R&B giant R. Kelly with Luther Vandross bass player Marcus Miller and Thriller drummer Ndugu Chancler. For his latest single, "Future Is Mine," Cassidy has joined electro funk duo Chromeo with Rufus' John "JR" Robinson and Bobby Watson, Barry White guitarist Wah Wah Watson, "Forget Me Nots" composer/vocalist Patrice Rushen, and Michael Jackson horn and string arranger, Jerry Hey.

DJ Cassidy's music is the culmination of a lifetime of deejaying around the world, observing people react, and making people move. At age ten, he played school carnivals, then friends' birthdays, then, at age eighteen, VIP rooms of New York nightclubs. During one late-night set at a New York City hotspot, Cassidy caught the attention of Sean "Diddy" Combs, who, impressed with the youngster's vast knowledge of music well beyond his years, quickly hired Cassidy to deejay at his 2001 MTV Video Music Awards bash. Jay Z heard Cassidy soon thereafter and began calling on him for all of his and Beyoncé’s parties.

The offers snowballed year after year, with Russell Simmons, Jennifer Lopez, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Nas, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Tommy Hilfiger, Anna Wintour and the hottest nightclubs around the globe all recognizing Cassidy's unique ability to connect to everyone, everywhere. Regardless of where he was performing, one thing held true. "No matter where I played and who stood in front of me, the dance records of the late 1970s and early 1980s put a spirit, emotion, and energy in the air like no other."

To reclaim that magical feeling, Cassidy placed his twenty-five favorite songs from that era in a playlist and put them in chronological order, with all the tracks falling between 1978 and 1982. Then, Cassidy made a list of every musician who played on each of the twenty-five songs. Realizing that the same names kept reappearing, the determined producer set out on a journey to track down the "men behind the music" to join him in the studio. After re-uniting these iconic musicians and channeling their prolific sound, Cassidy began seeking modern-day songwriters and recording artists of all genres to bring a new voice to the music.

This passion and curiosity dates back to age three, when Cassidy discovered pivotal hip hop records like Run DMC's "Sucker M.C.'s" and cult classic dance films like Breakin'. At nine years old, he begged his parents for two turntables and a mixer for his tenth birthday. When granted his wish, he visited record stores every weekend and studied the back of every vinyl cover, learning who wrote and produced his favorite songs. Inspired by Afrika Bambaataa's, Kool Herc’s, and Grandmaster Flash’s genre-defying style, a young Cassidy made it his motto to “play all music, for all people, all over the world.”

"I've taken every party I've ever rocked, every record I've ever played, every foot I've ever moved, and transposed them all into the music I produce," explains Cassidy. "In my world, every person is welcome, every day is a party, and every night is a celebration."
